Description

A delightful gluten-free dessert made with almond semolina, soaked in a fragrant orange syrup, perfect for Ramadan celebrations.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup almond semolina
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds (for topping)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar (for syrup)
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tsp orange zest

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine almond semolina, yogurt, sugar, melted butter, and baking powder.
  3. Mix until well combined and pour the mixture into a greased baking dish.
  4. Sprinkle sliced almonds on top.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. While the basbousa is baking, prepare the orange syrup by combining water, sugar, orange juice, and orange zest in a saucepan.
  7. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
  8. Once the basbousa is done, pour the warm orange syrup over it.
  9. Let it cool before serving.
